Dempo Goodwill Ambassador and International Master Anurag Mhamal (Grand Master – Elect) finished 3rd in the just – concluded 8th International Open di Scacchi Dolomiti Group A Chess Tournament held in Italy.

With a rating of 2466, Anurag, the promotee of Dempo Group entity, Devashri Real Estate Developers, will gain eleven points to add to that rating, making his race to the title of GM one that is closer to the finish line than before.

Goa State’s top-most and highest-rated player, Anurag is eagerly striving to cross the magic 2500 Elo Rating to become the first GM of Goa, towards which he has already earned the required GM norms.

The chess wizard requires a mere 23 Elo points to reach the 2500 ELO rating.

Anurag scored 6.5 points from 9 rounds in the Italian competition, with five wins and three draws. He defeated Landi Alberto, FM Molina Fabrizio, IM Bruno Fabio of Italy, IM Derakhshani Dorsa of Iran & IM Castellanos Rodriguez Renier of Spain, while drawing with FM Barp Alberto, IM Stany G A of India and GM Koneev Oleg of Spain, and losing to GM Matamoros Franco Carlos of Ecuador.
