The Founder Chairman of the Group, Shri Vasantrao Dempo was awarded the "Padmashri" for his vast contribution towards the Goan economy.

 
The Group was Founded by Shri Vasantrao Dempo in 1941 alongwith his younger brother Shri Vaikuntrao Dempo. Born on 4th March 1916, this scion of Goa’s oldest aristocratic family was a pioneer in the industrial and social development of Goa. He was versatile, statesmanlike and multidimensional - ever at ease whether dealing with the Japanese steel mills , Indian business magnates or politicians – he could enthrall any company.
 
Shri Vaikunthrao Dempo was a rare visionary with a strong sense of principles, his integrity, intelligence , humanitarianism – all guided his keen sense of business and industry. Apart from his contributions to the growth of the Group as well as the Goan economy, he had the distinction of representing Goa as a Member of Parliament of Portugal.
 
Shri Vasudeva V. Dempo succeeded Shri Vasantrao to steer the Group to greater heights during his tenure as Chairman. Apart from his business acumen, he was reputed for his warmth and empathy. He could relate to people, whether the high and mighty or the humble worker, as no one else could do. Apart from various positions held in leading trade and industry associations, he was also honourary Counsel of Mexico to India.
