‘The Navhind Times School Quiz’, an all Goa competition for students up to standard ten was conducted by The Navhind Times in association with Deccan Fine Chemicals (India) Private Limited for the seventh successive year. The 12 talukas of Goa for the purpose of the competition were divided into four zones –

  • Zone 1 – Bardez, Pernem, Bicholim;
  • Zone 2 – Tiswadi, Sattari, Ponda:
  • Zone 3 – Salcete, Sanguem Canacona and
  • Zone 4 – Mormugao, Quepem, Dharbandora,;

and the entire event was held in three stages – Taluka, Semi-finals and Finals. More than 100 schools participated in the quiz. With each school being given the liberty to put up more than one team, the total team participation witnessed was almost 120.

The first leg of the quiz was held on December 6 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao and the second leg on December 10 at Dempo House, Panaji. After battling against each other and showcasing their intellectual skills, six schools qualified into the final round for a grand finale face off. The finale comprised of a total of five rounds which tested the students’ intellectual and analytical ability. The schools that made it to the finale were –

  • G S Amonkar Vidya Mandir, Mapusa;
  • Sharada Mandir School, Miramar;
  • Loyola High school, Margao;
  • Holy Family High School, Porvorim and
  • Sarvodaya High School, Curchorem.

The finale that was held on December 11 saw Yuri Naidu and Srijan Kumar from Sharada Mandir School, Miramar, walking away with the first prize followed by Neel Desouza and Madhusudan Hasbe of Holy Family High School, Porvorim, as runners-up.

At the valedictory function, winners were awarded their trophies and prizes by, head of Human Resources, Administrartion and CSR of Deccan Fine Chemicals, Yogesh Arora. Also present on the occasion were assistant general manager, Canara Bank, Pradeep Bhakta and general manager, The Navhind Times, Pramod Revankar. In his address Arora congratulated the winning schools and other participating schools. He encouraged students to read and learn and to bravely utilise their potential.

Goa 365 covered the event which was supported by Canara Bank and sponsored by Real’s Drinks, Time Collection and Cremeux. Ravindra Bhavan was the venue partner in Margao and the quiz master was Rajiv D’Silva.
