Dempo SC’s ‘Young Eagles Hunt Championship’ (North Zonal) received a great turnout as 21 teams with over 210 players participated in the event held at Duler stadium, Mapusa on the 24th January, 2016..

The 7v7 football U-18 tournament witnessed higher secondary schools, registered clubs; open teams and even high schools players competing in the event.

St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa emerged winners of the North Zonals defeating Parra Choco Boys 4-1 in the finals.

Earlier in the first semis, St Xavier’s beat United Boys, Panaji 3-2 via a tie-breaker and Parra Choco got the better of Dempo Higher Secondary School 3-2.

Many young players impressed the Dempo SC technical team with their skills, technique and on-field attitude during the tournament and have been shortlisted for the closed camp to be held later in the year.

“It was a very productive exercise, all the games were exciting but there had to be only one winner and St Xavier’s were the worthy winners,” said Dempo SC youth development technical director Katz Naidoo, adding “There were very good talent available today and it’s up to us to mould the players to become even better and become part of Dempo SC”.

St Xavier’s HSS, Parra Choco Boys, Dempo HSS and United Boys, Panaji have qualified for the state finals.

The Club will conduct their third and final zonal at Fatorda artificial turf ground on January 27 and this could be the last opportunity for the young players to get to become part of the Golden Eagles.
