Another Feather in Goodwill Ambassador Bhakti Kulkarni’s Cap

Woman Grandmaster and Goa Carbon Limited Goodwill Ambassador Bhakti Kulkarni caused a sensation when she won the bronze medal at the National Blitz Chess Championship just held in Jullunder, Punjab.

The National Woman Champion got to be placed behind the National Men’s Champion, GM Arvind Chidambaram, and GM R. R. Laxman.

Bhakti has created something of a record by standing in the medal list of the National Men’s Championship! She proved her prowess in rapid chess when she tied for third place in the National Rapid Chess Championship. As the dark horse of the Championship Bhakti defeated GM Sriram Jha and IM Dinesh Kumar Sharma in the Rapid Championship.

Bhakti’s results improved spectacularly in the National Blitz when she beat India’s latest GM Swayams Mishra, IM Rahul Shetty, WGM Minakshi, and WGM Swati Ghate before drawing with Champion Arvind in the final round.

As such, Bhakti has appeared to emerge as the top woman player of India in all three formats of chess – Classical, Rapid and Blitz.

Bhakti Kulkarni goes on to represent India in the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in December, 2019. She has already booked her seat at the World Cup in the classical format.

Bhakti was excited after her remarkable performance! “A woman playing among men and winning a medal is never heard of in the history of Indian chess! I am happy that I could do it,” she exclaimed.

Bhakti’s next destination is China where she will represent India at the Asian Continental Championship in the first week of June this year.

All at DEMPO, beginning with those at Goa Carbon Ltd congratulate Bhakti Kulkarni warmly and wish her new heights to conquer!
