The Founder’s Day of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo H.S.S. of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira, was held on 5th March, 2019 to mark the 103rd birth anniversary of the Founder, Padmashri Late. Vasantrao Sinai Dempo. The Chief Guest for the function was Shri. Shrinivas Dempo, Chairman of Dempo Charities Trust, while Shri. Yatish Dempo, Trustee of Dempo Charities Trust was the Guest of Honour.
The programme commenced by paying homage to the Founder. The Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Shri. Antonio Fernandes, MLA of St. Cruz constituency, Shri. Rajesh Bhatikar, Administrator of Dempo Charities Trust, Mrs. Diksha Kavlekar, Sarpanch of St. Cruz Panchayat, Mrs. Rupa S. Khope, Principal, Mrs. Rekha Keni Gurrala, Vice Principal and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the portrait of the Founder.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest urged the recipients of the scholarships to have the determination to pursue their dreams. He urged them to give back to the society when they become resourceful. He added that commitment, passion; quest for knowledge, curiosity and hard work go in making a person successful. He also urged the parents not to compare their children even with their siblings.
The Santa Cruz scholarships for the year 2018-2019 under the aegis Vasantrao Dempo Education and Research Foundation, were distributed to meritorious students of the village of St. Cruz at the hands of the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and other dignitaries. The scholarships were in the H.S.S, Graduation, Post-Graduation and Professional courses category. Scholarships under the ‘Merit- cum Means scheme’ by the Dempo Charities Trust were also distributed by the Chief Guest to other Goan meritorious students, by providing financial assistance to pursue post-graduation and professional courses.
The school magazine ‘Vasantdeep 2019’ was released on the occasion, at the hands of the Chief Guest. The Editor in Chief of the magazine is teacher, Mrs. Fransquinha Rodrigues. The cover page of the magazine is designed by student, Miss. Shravani Matodkar, XI Science.
The State Rankers from DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo H.S.S, Cujira, who topped the Goa Board, March 2018 examination in the Science and Commerce stream, Miss. Saavi Milind Natekar and Miss. Shivani Shirish Bhide, were also felicitated. Miss. Shubhechcha Mudras from DCT’s Dempo H.S.S. of Science, Miramar, was also felicitated for scoring highest marks in Std XII Science in the state of Goa. Mast. Aman Govekar, student of XII Commerce of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo H.S.S, Cujira, was awarded the Best Sports person for his outstanding achievement in the field of Sports, while Miss. Rianne Ferrao was awarded the Hiralal Raythatha Memorial prize for obtaining highest marks in Std X and joining DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo H.S.S of Arts, Science & Commerce.
Earlier, the Administrator gave the welcome address and said that the outstanding result was a tribute to the Founder. Earlier, a short film on the Founder was shown, which was conceptualized and produced by the Principal, Mrs. Rupa S. Khope.
Earlier, teacher, Mrs. Darshita Chari through a song paid tribute to the soldiers. The programme was compered by teachers, Ms. Vanaja Mudaliar and Mrs. Lina Gad.
