The Hindi Department of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Science, Commerce and Arts, Cujira St – Cruz, celebrated ‘Hindi Divas’ with great enthusiasm. To commemorate this day, a one day workshop was conducted for all Goa Hindi Teachers. The Chief Guest for the inaugural function was Shri. Rajesh Bhatikar, Administrator of Dempo Charities Trust. The Guest of Honor was Mrs. Hafifa Khwaja, visiting faculty of the District Institute of Educational Training, Porvorim.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Bhatikar urged the teachers to inculcate the reading habit in students by setting a spark which would allure them towards reading in different languages. The guest of Honor, Mrs. Khwaja also spoke on the occasion. She commented that the Hindi language has simple phonetics which is easy to understand and pronounce. She also spoke about the growing popularity of the Hindi language through television and cinema. She said with pride that Hindi is the national language.

Senior teacher, Mrs. Sumedha Kamat Desai was felicitated at the hands of the Chief guest, for being awarded the National award for the best teacher at Delhi. Also teacher Shri. Sanjay Naik was felicitated for being elected as the Teachers’ Representative North Goa at the Goa Board elections, 2017.

The Principal Mr. Rupa Khope said that language is the medium of communication and preservation of culture. She also presented a PowerPoint presentation on the poem by Harivarsh Rai Bachchan.

The inauguration was followed by the workshop sessions by Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor at Dada Vaidhya Institute of Education, Ponda, Dr. Ramita Gurav Associate Professor at St. Xaviers’ College, Mapusa and Mrs. Jyothi Kulkarni, lecturer at Fr. Agnel Higher Secondary School Verna. The Coordinator / teacher In charge of the programme, Shri. Ajay Joshi proposed a vote of thanks, while Mrs. Antima V. Satarker compered the function.
